There seems to be a problem with the FixPak for Java 1.1.8 that was announced on WarpCast the other day.

Some keyboard input doesn't seem to work correctly once this service pack is installed. In particular, the Desktop OnCall sign-in screen will let username and password be typed in, but won't change from one field to another with the tab key. Once logged in, the main DeskTop OnCall applet won't accept any keyboard input at all, though mouse input works just fine. Similarly, the Java Telnet applet doesn't allow any keyboard input at all. Hot Java seems to behave the way that the Desktop OnCall sign-in applet does (ie: text input works, but not all control keys do).

Tests with the applet viewer and hotJava indicate that it is not a Netscape problem, but a Java problem.

This has been reported by several people in comp.os.o2.bugs.

If everything goes well I should start on a new menu object for VisPro REXX in September. The new object should be able to add the button object in its window and manage them. This calls for some difficult coding, since I want to allow for pull downs next to the button and fly over text. Now the difficulty lies in VisPro REXX behavior since you noticed the button object does not do a proper refresh. This is because I do not get the proper window message. Anyway if you have any suggestion or are good with C your help will be needed. Thanks in advance.

The German version of lSwitcher has been updated. This release fixes a font problem in the settings dialog. As a "bonus", program title font in the popup window can now be changed by dragging from the OS/2 font pallette. See liesmich.txt on how to use this feature.

You can find this release of the program at:

Eventually it will be at:

lSwitcher is a convenient feature-rich Presentation Manager and full screen task switcher for OS/2.

My fourth article on remote booting diskless Windows workstations from OS/2 Warp Server is available at:

http://www.matem.unam.mx/~micho/ripl4.html

(this is an extended version).

The article discusses several diskless RAM-drive based configurations, that start Windows from a RAM-drive [C:]. Such systems download their "Windows nucleus" (which is a minimal Windows distribution with a 32-bit networking) from the OS/2 server (I presented one of these configurations at Warptech).

The article also explains how to create a virtual boot "superfloppy" that is large enough to hold the whole Windows nucleus package (in my experiments I used 16MB "floppy" images).

Last Chance To Sign Up For Warpstock Social Event!
Warpstock, Inc. (Internet)
Contact: David Ameiss, Secretary david@ameissnet.com

Attention Warpstock 2000 attendees: if you haven't signed up for the Social Event, you must do so now!

Continuing their fine tradition, VOICE (Virtual OS/2 International Consumer Education group) will be hosting the Warpstock 2000 Social Event on Saturday, September 9, at The Old Original Bookbinders, a quaint restaurant just two blocks from the Warpstock hotel. But if you want to join all the other Warpstock attendees at this merry outing, you need to hurry.

For a mere $40, you can be part of the biggest OS/2 party this year. You don't want to be the only one sitting in your hotel room Saturday evening watching Baywatch re-runs, do you?

The cut-off date for reservations is Setember 4. In other words, reservations for the Social Event will NOT be accepted after that date, so you cannot wait until Warpstock itself to sign up! All the information you need, including the menu, can be found at the Warpstock Social Event web page, http://www.warpstock.org/2000/social.html.

The 4th annual Warpstock conference will be held September 9-10, 2000, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation. The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users and vendors from around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available at the Warpstock 2000 website, http://www.warpstock.org or its mirror site, http://www.ibmforum.com/warpstock/.

OS/2 Musclemen Video Production Facilities

Hi guys,

I'm getting sort of swamped here trying to schedule my two video production crews for all the OS/2 Musclemen video production.

What I'd like to do is find some volunteer production people around the country/Europe/Australia/etc so the crews and the presenters would be closer to each other.

If you have an interest in joining the OS/2 Musclemen video production team, send me a message at MusclePR@scoug.com (put "Stan" somewhere in the first line and I'll get it automatically, otherwise they'll manually forward it to me).

Here's what I need:

1. People to do the actual recording of the presentations, either directly to digital files or onto videotape which will later be transferred to digital. If you have or can borrow a video camera, and have some place such as a meeting room or school auditorium stage where a nice video can be made, you'd be a real help.

2. People to do transfers from videotape to digital files. The catch here is that some computers drop too many frames or put kinks in the sound track. If you have a system that can do transfers without glitches, and you have a CD-ROM burner or high-speed line so you can get the digital files to us easily, let me know.

3. People to edit the recorded video files. Typically the presentations are recorded in pieces (like because the computer freezes and has to be rebooted) and also they're recorded more than once from different camera angles and the presentation then needs to be edited together. If you want to be an OS/2 Musclemen editor, contact me. Personally, I don't care whether you edit on OS/2 or some other platform (Mac, BeOS, whatever) as long as we turn out lots of top-quality OS/2 video presentations.

In case you missed the prior announcements, The OS/2 Musclemen is a constantly-updated online OS/2 convention with many, many conference-quality videos ready for viewing. The series debuts this fall and will allow you to "attend" an OS/2 conference any time you want and whenever you want.

Send me a message at MusclePR@scoug.com if you want to volunteer. Thanks.

- Stan, Schedule Master, "The OS/2 Musclemen"

An article on the recently mentioned Crystal CS4280 PCI sound card and the installation procedure and several links are available at:

http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past%5Fissues/VNL1299H/vnewsf4.htm

It also includes a link to another source for these cards. It is at pcbroker.com and it is in their multimedia section. I can not attest to this working but being in the same situation as the author of your news item, I ordered one from pcbroker but have not received it yet.

I'd like to announce the release of ConfigEdit/2 v1.7

New to this version: added popup menu on editor, new options: copy/cut/paste, and updated cm2cfg database.

ConfigEdit/2 is a config.sys database manager which can auto-generate config.sys files from a database which can be either imported or created by hand. It can be used to hold multiple config.sys files and generate new ones. Also manages OS/2's recovery choices!
